Implementation Process

The actual implementation of an electronic medical record (EMR) solution is primarily the responsibility of the physician's chosen EMR provider. This includes major activities such as:

  • The installation of hardware and software
  • Setting up of network requirements
  • Integration with defined provincial systems
  • Migration of data (if appropriate)
  • Delivery of all necessary training

To help achieve a successful implementation, the clinic will be responsible for tasks such as:

  • Completing all forms and agreements
  • Reviewing and approving hardware for the new EMR solution
  • Completing a privacy impact assessment
  • Scheduling training for physicians and staff
  • Adjusting patient load during the implementation
  • Completing a thorough review of any migrated data

The Physician Office System Program (POSP) team provides support throughout the implementation process.
